Why does your dog eat it’s own crap?

I had a very loud woman come into my office who demanded to know how

she could stop her dog from dog poop and why on earth did her dog do

it anyways?

Dogs eating their own poop is actualy quite common. Poor nutrition

and being left alone frequently often starts this behavior but the

theory is that many dogs learn this behavior from their mothers who

eat puppy poop in order to conceal the puppies from predators.

here are a couple of ways to stop your dog from eating it’s own crap:

1. Clean up your dogs poop constantly

2. Become dominant with your dog and claim the area of the poop by

being loud and maintaining eye contact. As your dog breaks eye

contact and turns away the area and its contents (poop) should now be

safe.

3. Put some pineapple into the dogs food. This often prevents your dog from eating their own poop as the digested pineapple tastes much worse than the fresh pineapple.

4. Associate the eating of poop with a loud noise

5. Do not leave your dog alone with the poop for long periods of time.
