Pets with a cast

One of the saddest things I regularly see is pets with a cast. It is so sad to see a pet with his mobility restricted. It always puts a smile on my face when the pet finally has the cast removed. Then they can begin their lives again. It is still very sad though.

1. Anesthetics include Isoflurane, Sevoflourane, and Propofol

2. Sedatives, pain medications, and tranquilizers can be combined

3. Acepromazine, morphine, butorphanol, valium, and buprenorphine are typically used

4. There is always a risk with anesthesia

4. Distemper is found in foxes, ferrets, raccoons, and many other carnivores

5. First signs include sore throat, watery eyes, temperature, and diarrhea

6. As the disease progresses twitching and convulsions follow

7. Always get vaccinizations against distemper

Intervertebral disk disease can weaken your pets legs and result in a crooked back. Dogs are very susceptible to this disease. The result is spinal cord damage and decreased movement from the seperated vertebrae. This is a painful disease and also causes loss of bowel and bladder control. This disease is only treatable through surgery and medication.
