Ear infections in dogs
Ear infections in dogs can be very frustrating as they are common and can recur frequently. If not properly treated a dog ear infection can cause hearing problems and become very painful. The most common cause of an ear infection in a dog is water collecting in the ear along with dirt and other items. A dog will rub their ears and head against items and tilt their head. The ear may appear red and have a discharge or smell. Common treatment is to sedate the dog and clear out the debris and then prescribe a medication. Most of this medication is applied topically to the ear.
